Blood Runs Deep | A Poem From Fiqh of Death

The following a poem written by Br. Afnan Khan, an attendee of Nurayn seminars, after taking the “The Last Breath: Fiqh of Death” class. Enjoy!

Blood runs deep…
it flows from beneath the streets.
with free rhythm thats only willed by God to be free
that makes each of us an I, he, she, and most definitely a We

blood runs deep…
to the impetus pulsating of pulses that pulse through your body, and mind and their roots:
Your veins
Your veins that flow through your mouth to produce a beautiful voice
And your hands that say no to murder or not with a choice

blood runs deep…
to the soil you walk on
from under the flesh that grows of your freshly mowed lawns
that cover this wide expanse of raw earth

I stated a statement that put us in this state of “from”
so where does blood run from?

From what you’re worth
the form that you were formed to by a formation from dirt
By steps of dust, stinking, sound, & clay you were made
A little lovely spec I call earth and your grave

So ye who believe
believe you will die
so don’t puff your chest to the sky
because it barely accedes past your neck and under you chin
so no matter how hard you try
you’re not so fly
so act now because you have no time
and death is right behind your breath
it’s gravity will pull you down to your final rest

so I advise me, you, and We
this “death” will never leave
So yeah, Blood runs deep…
